Jipyong Signs MOU with Responsible Business Alliance (RBA)

On March 8, Jipyong signed a memorandum of understanding with the Responsible Business Alliance (RBA) to work together to promote responsible business behavior among Korean companies. 
 
RBA is a global non-profit organization founded in 2004 and is the world's largest industry alliance dedicated to corporate social responsibility in global supply chains. Jipyong and RBA have been working together since April 2023, when Jipyong co-hosted a luncheon meeting with executives in charge of ESG at major Korean companies during the visit of EU Advocate General Didier Reynders. Jipyong and RBA have now formally signed a memorandum of understanding ▲to support sustainability due diligence for Korean companies, subsidiaries, and supply chains; ▲support global sustainability-related regulatory responses; ▲hold joint conferences, corporate meetings, and training sessions; and ▲publish Korean translations of RBA publications or joint works.  
 
On the 8th of this month, Jipyong and the RBA held a successful conference on 'Compliance in Transition: Responses to Due Diligence Regulations and Practice Case Studies' at the Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry. At the conference, due diligence experts from RBA and Jipyong Compliance team comprehensively analyzed various supply chain due diligence regulations in Europe and the United States, including human rights and environmental due diligence, forced labor regulations, and battery regulations, and introduced supply chain management practice methodologies. 
 
The conference was moderated by Bart DeVos, Deputy Director of Public Policy at RBA, and began with a welcome from Sung Taek Lim, Partner at Jipyong, followed by a keynote address by Tyler Gillard, Chief Strategy Officer at the RBA (formerly Head of Due Diligence and Senior Counsel at the OECD Center for Responsible Business Conduct) on 'Geopolitical and Policy Transitions: Secure and Sustainable Supply Chains". In the first session, Changwook Min, Partner at Jipyong Compliance Team, and Hyunchan Jeong, Advisor at Jipyong, presented "Trends in Sustainability Due Diligence and How Global Companies are Responding"; in the second session, Bart DeVos, Deputy Director of Public Policy at RBA, and Chi Q. Do, Director of Public Policy for Asia at RBA, presented "Supply Chain Due Diligence Obligation: Regulatory Trends, Implications for Korean Companies, and How to Respond"; and finally, in the third session,  Chi Q. Do , Director of Public Policy for Asia at RBA, presented "Forced Labor Regulation Trends and How to Respond". 
 
"We hope that this conference provided a comprehensive overview of regulations and trends related to supply chain due diligence and practical methodologies for responding to them," said Mr. Sung Taek Lim, Head of the ESG Center at Jipyong. 
 
Meanwhile, Jipyong Compliance Team specializes in conducting human rights and environmental due diligence (HREDD) in accordance with global standards such as the United Nations Guiding Principles (UNGPs) and the OECD standards. Last year, the team published a manual on human rights management and provides human rights impact assessment and sustainability due diligence-related consulting to various industries based on its expertise gained through collaboration with global leading organizations such as Business for Social Responsibility (BSR) and World Benchmarking Alliance (WBA), as well as RBA.
