JIPYONG Published “Commentary on Human Rights Management” in Collaboration with The Korea Economic Daily

In collaboration with the Korea Economic Daily, JIPYONG published the "Commentary on Human Rights Management" in February. 
 
Human rights management has recently gained prominence as a new business management topic. Major countries around the world are introducing regulations to hold companies more accountable for human rights violations in their supply chains.  Since France institutionalized human rights due diligence in 2017, laws requiring human rights due diligence have spread throughout Europe, including Germany and Norway. Foreign laws regarding human rights due diligence may also apply to offshore companies. Experts note that Korean companies participating in global supply chains cannot be exempt. 
 
The table of contents is organized into △Concept of Human Rights Management, △Declaration of Human Rights Policy, △Human Rights Due Diligence, △Representative Cases of Human Rights Management, and △Global Trends, covering from A to Z what a business needs to know to become an “ethical company” as well as “good company” 
 
"Human rights due diligence is actually an opportunity for companies," said Managing Partner Lim Sung-taek in the foreword. "I am publishing this book with the hope that more businesses recognize the importance of considering human rights and approach human rights issues with sincerity." 
 
JIPYONG, meanwhile, established the first human rights management team in Korea in 2019 and has advised a number of large-sized corporations, government organizations, and public institutions on human rights impact assessment, human rights due diligence, and establishing grievance handling procedures. In 2021, JIPYONG signed an MOU with BSR, a global human rights management consulting firm (<a href="https://www.hankyung.com/society/article/202201107314i">link</a>), and in 2022, JIPYONG became the first Asian law firm to join the WBA, an organization that manages the Corporate Human Rights Benchmark (CHRB) (<a href="https://www.lawtimes.co.kr/Legal-News/Legal-News-View?serial=181093">link</a>), at which JIPYONG collaborate with global human rights management experts on joint projects. JIPYONG is also contributing to the dissemination of human rights management in Korea by taking the initiative in participating in the '2022 Pilot Project on Human Rights Management in Private Enterprises' promoted by the National Human Rights Commission.
