Sok Moo KIM served for over 30 years in various departments within the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy (MOTIE), including energy and resources, trade and commerce, and industry. Throughout his tenure, he gained extensive practical experience and specialized knowledge, which he subsequently leveraged during his successful 3.2-year term as CEO and President of Korea Offshore Wind Power Corporation.
At MOTIE, Mr. KIM’s responsibilities in the energy and resources sector included formulating and implementing energy and resource policies, licensing power generation projects, and advancing smart grid deployment initiatives. In the field of trade and commerce, he contributed to strengthening the global competitiveness of Korean companies by protecting domestic industries through the use of trade remedy measures, including anti-dumping investigations, and by supporting the overseas expansion of businesses.
In the industrial sector, he contributed to safeguarding public life, safety, and property through significant improvements to the product recall system, and to enhancing the quality competitiveness of domestic products by establishing and implementing the Master Plan for National Standards, thereby leveraging standards and certification systems. Furthermore, Mr. KIM gained extensive experience in human resources management and addressing and monitoring civil complaints as well.
As President of Korea Offshore Wind Power Corporation, Mr. KIM concurrently managed the operation and development of offshore wind farms. He successfully negotiated a long-term fixed-price contract with the government to ensure the smooth progression of a development project estimated at approximately KRW 3.3 trillion. His expertise in offshore wind energy was further enhanced by earning a doctorate with a dissertation focused on improving the capacity factor of power generation facilities.
