Jipyong has published its 2024 Jipyong Sustainability Report. Since 2019, when Jipyong became the first Korean law firm to publish a sustainability report, the firm has transparently disclosed its efforts and major achievements related to the “Declaration on Actualizing Social Value in Management” to stakeholders, while actively gathering feedback to advance the realization of social value in the legal sector. The 2024 Jipyong Sustainability Report (the “Report”) details Jipyong’s activities to realize social value from January to December 2024, including those for the implementation of the Ten Principles of the United Nations Global Compact (UNGC) and United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The Report was prepared based on standards proposed by Professor Seong Soo HONG of Sookmyung Women's University in “Social Responsibility and Public Interest Activities of Law Firms,” the “Evaluation Indicators for Public Interest Activities of Law Firms” by the Korean Bar Association, and the Standards (Core Option) of the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) Guidelines. The Report consists of four chapters: (i) Introduction to Jipyong, (ii) A Law Firm Where Members are Happy and Fulfilled, (iii) A Law Firm Dedicated to Clients, Combining Top Legal Talent with Professional Integrity, and (iv) A Community of Legal Professionals Contributing to Society. Each chapter presents cases illustrating how Jipyong implemented initiatives to internalize social value management as an organization-wide priority and to meet international standards. In addition, the Report outlines Jipyong’s policies and initiatives aimed at enhancing sustainability and addressing social challenges, including those related to ESG, human rights management, and environmental policy. Jipyong has established the Continued Listing Advisory Center (CLAC) and provides legal support to companies needing to maintain their listing eligibility. In collaboration with the public interest organization Duroo, Jipyong also engages in litigation, legal advice, and policy reform to protect and advocate for the rights and interests of marginalized and minority groups. Notable examples of the combined legal expertise and social responsibility efforts of Jipyong and Duroo include the "Living with the First Floor” case, which recognized the right of access for people with disabilities as a fundamental constitutional right through an en banc public hearing of the Supreme Court, and the “Suffrage for Individuals with Developmental Disabilities (Voting Assistance)” case, which aimed to ensure political participation rights for people with developmental disabilities. In addition, Jipyong has been actively implementing environmental policies aimed at fostering a sustainable work environment and reducing carbon emissions, such as introducing a paperless office system, using FSC-certified paper, and expanding the use of eco-friendly vehicles. Under the vision of becoming “a law firm where members are happy and fulfilled,” Jipyong has also strengthened employee welfare programs, including continuous glucose monitoring program and psychological counseling services. The Report also includes various initiatives undertaken by Jipyong to fulfill its commitment to sustainability and social responsibility. Mr. Sung Won YOON, a Co-Managing Partner at Jipyong, stated, “Sustainability is a management philosophy that every corporation and organization must embrace,” and emphasized that “Jipyong is recognized as one of Asia’s leading law firms in ESG, sustainability, and human rights management. But we do not rest on our laurels. Building on our recognition, expertise, and sincerity, we will continue to broaden and deepen our contribution to society.” [Korean Newsletter Reference]
