On August 19th, Jipyong LLC (“Jipyong”) successfully recruited a total of nine attorneys, advisers, and experts from the labor team of Dentons Lee (Dentons Lee”Dentons Lee”) as part of its efforts to expand its service scope and bolster its capabilities in the labor sector.
Jipyong’s Labor & Employment Group, comprising around 30 members, is led by Managing Partner Ji-hyung KIM, a former Supreme Court justice; Mr. Young Hwan KWON, an attorney and certified labor attorney with extensive experience in labor law and practice; Mr. Sung Soo KIM, the first attorney in Korea to graduate from medical school who specializes in industrial accidents and labor issues in the medical field; Mr. Chang Young KWON, who holds a Ph.D. in law and previously served as Presiding Judge. The Labor & Employment Group has been widely praised for its strength in labor law jurisprudence and expertise on the latest issues in the field. Recently, the group has achieved notable successes in litigation, including Supreme Court rulings to quash and remand the case to the lower court in key labor cases such as NEXTIL’s layoffs, Hyundai Steel’s illegal dispatch case. Alongside its advice on responding to investigation involving labor-related laws, the Group is making notable achievements in advising foreign companies and ESG-related matters such as human rights impact assessments.
With the recruitment of attorneys and experts from the labor team at Dentons LEE, known for their strength in labor affairs, industrial safety, and response to serious accidents, Jipyong has bolstered its capabilities across all areas of labor law. This expansion strengthens Jipyong’s expertise in labor litigation and ESG – areas where the firm has been praised for – as well as in human resources and industrial safety.
Among the new members joining Jipyong are attorneys Yong Moon KIM, Yo Seop SHIM, and Si-won LEE, who brings extensive experience in labor-related disputes and cases, including individual and collective labor relations, industrial safety, developed at major Korean law firms such as Kim & Chang, Lee & Ko, and Hwawoo. In particular, attorney Yong Moon KIM, who previously led the labor team at Dentons Lee, served as a partner at Lee & Ko for a long time and has honed his expertise in labor law through roles such as a dispatched attorney to the International Labor Organization (ILO), legal counsel of the Ministry of Employment and Labor, and public interest committee member of the Gyeonggi National Labor Relations Commission and Seoul Labor-Management Counsel. Attorney Yo Seop SHIM serves as an advisor to the Economic and Social Labor Commission and public interest committee member of the Seoul Regional Labor Commission. Attorney Si Won LEE is an expert member of the Workplace Harassment Judgment Committee of the Seoul Regional Employment and Labor Office. Advisor Un Bae JEON and expert Kwon Sik SHIN, who both bring practical experience from the Ministry of Labor and Employment, also joined Jipyong, adding substantial expertise to Jipyong capabilities in labor law.
