[Case Highlight 6] Successful representation on behalf of professor for decision to reduce penalty at Appeal Commission for Educators
2020.07.15

The claimant was a professor who was imposed two months of suspension and a monetary fine which was twice the amount of the damage for improper execution of research funds. The claimant argued that the disciplinary action was excessive and filed a claim for review of the decision.

Jipyong represented the claimant and argued that the claimant did not privately use the research funds by presenting a number of facts based on which the penalty should be reduced. The disciplinary review committee therefore decided to reduce the monetary fine to half of the original amount, although it maintained the suspension period of two months.

The claimant was also criminally charged. The first instance court decided to impose a penalty of a monetary fine, and the prosecutors appealed on the ground of improper sentencing. Jipyong represented the claimant at the appellate court and successfully dismissed the appeal.
